Facing Fear and Embracing Myself: My Journey to Acceptance

By: Midjourney

At first, I was paralyzed by fear—fear of failure, fear of not being enough. What would I do if someone wanted to work with me? I convinced myself that I lacked the skills to perform well. So, I pursued further education, earning credentials from a reputable institution and joining an international society. On paper, I was equipped, but inside, the fear lingered.

Next, I worried that I might harm someone unintentionally while trying to help them. This fear held me back from entering the field I was passionate about. To ease my doubts, I worked in a related area, helping clients in ways that felt safe. Over time, this proved to me that I could make a difference without carrying the weight of others' problems entirely on my shoulders. But even then, fear persisted.

I came to realize that my deepest fear wasn’t about skills or mistakes—it was about being seen. Allowing others to see me meant exposing myself to the possibility of being hurt in ways I feared I couldn’t recover from. All I wanted was to help people feel better about themselves, to encourage them to accept and celebrate who they are. Yet, how could I do that if I hadn’t accepted myself?

To help others embrace themselves, I knew I had to start with me. I began to cherish my own resilience: graduating from an online university with a 4% completion rate despite battling severe dyslexia, surviving challenges that could have broken me, and thriving despite the odds.

It hasn’t been easy, and the fear still lingers. What if people see me and expect more? What if I fall short? But I’ve learned to celebrate my journey and its badass nature. I may not have taken the easy road, but I’ve chosen the lasting one—a path of authenticity, courage, and growth.

Let this be a reminder: to help others grow, we must first honor our own stories. Fear may never fully disappear, but neither will our strength.
