Why I Became an Esthetician

Hi, I’m Marie—a friend on the journey to self-discovery through the transformative power of beauty and self-care. Esthetics has become such an important part of my life because I believe in its ability to transform not just how we look, but how we feel about ourselves. The way we care for our skin and embrace our natural beauty can be a powerful tool for self-love, confidence, and healing.

As I work toward my dream of becoming a therapist, esthetics is my way of helping others in the here and now. Skincare isn’t just about products and routines—it’s about creating a moment to connect with ourselves and show kindness to the person in the mirror. That’s why I’m dedicated to being the best esthetician I can be, constantly learning, improving, and tailoring my approach to each person’s unique needs. Every session is an opportunity to help someone feel more comfortable in their own skin and take steps toward a healthier relationship with themselves.

Life is rarely flawless—it’s a blend of triumphs and challenges, perfect moments, and imperfections. I’ve found that esthetics provides a bridge between the two, offering tools that can nurture both the surface and the soul. While I pursue my long-term goal of helping others heal from trauma, I see my work as an esthetician as a stepping stone, a way to offer care, empathy, and support to those who need it.

Here’s to embracing beauty that’s more than skin deep, building confidence, and celebrating the journey we’re all on. I can’t wait to share tips, insights, and stories with you as we explore this beautiful, transformative path together.

As Always, Stay Classy,
Marie Martin

Fun Fact

I love esthetics, makeup, coffee, gaming, a good book, and just about any fiber craft. If it involves creativity, relaxation, or a touch of glam, I’m probably already hooked! But here’s the secret: I’m a sassy romantic at heart.

  • Beauty, to me, is more than skin deepit’s about self-expression and the stories we tell through our presence. Whether it’s the confidence sparked by a bold lipstick or the serenity of a well-cared-for complexion, beauty is a personal ritual that connects us to ourselves. It’s not about perfection but about finding joy in the process of taking care of our bodies and minds. Skincare, in particular, is my love language to myself—a daily act of kindness that reminds me to pause, breathe, and appreciate the unique person I see in the mirror.

Living well, much like beauty, is an ongoing journey. I believe in approaching life with curiosity and openness, embracing both the simple and the extraordinary. From savoring the first sip of coffee in the morning to diving into creative hobbies like fiber crafts or gaming, I try to fill my days with meaning and joy. My philosophy is rooted in balance—finding harmony between ambition and rest, action and reflection. I strive to live with intention, welcoming each day as an opportunity to learn, grow, and discover beauty in unexpected places.

Ultimately, beauty, skincare, and life itself are all about connection—whether it’s to ourselves, the people we care about, or the world around us. When we take the time to nurture these connections, we can create lives that feel as radiant and fulfilling as they look.

  • Sewing was my gateway to the enchanting world of fiber crafts. My love for clothing and costumes drew me in, especially when I discovered LARPs—Live Action Role Playing games. For those unfamiliar, LARPs are immersive games where you step into a character’s shoes, often in fantastical or historical settings. At one point, these games ruled my life, but it wasn’t the gameplay itself that captivated me—it was the creation of the clothing. Designing and crafting garments to bring a character to life sparked a passion I couldn’t ignore. Naturally, I did what any self-driven (and slightly crazy) person would do: I went to school for fashion design. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, fueling my creativity and expanding my skills.

Now, my focus has shifted toward a quieter, more rooted life. I’ve turned my attention to the historic arts of fiber crafting, exploring weaving, spinning, and, of course, knitting. These crafts connect me to the past, to the traditions of self-sufficiency and artistry that have shaped humanity for generations. There’s something profoundly satisfying about creating with my own two hands, whether it’s transforming raw fiber into yarn or knitting a cozy sweater stitch by stitch. It’s not just a hobby—it’s a way of honoring the beauty of slow, intentional work and finding peace in the rhythm of creativity.

Despite this shift, my dream of a self-made wardrobe hasn’t faded. I still imagine designing and creating every piece from concept to completion—a wardrobe that reflects my personality and values. Each item would carry a story, woven into its fabric with care and intention. Fiber crafting has been, and always will be, a journey of discovery for me, blending artistry, practicality, and a deep love for the timeless magic of textiles.

  • Gaming has always been my portal to imagination and creativity. My favorite games are tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder First Edition, which have taught me about philosophy, storytelling, and how to live with purpose. These games inspire me to embrace the ideal of epochesuspending judgment to stay open to all possibilities.

It’s a philosophy that encourages curiosity, empathy, and a sense of wonder, guiding me to explore the world with a mind as open as the adventures I love.

When I’m not rolling dice, I dive into the magical world of World of Warcraft, where I play Xanddora, an elf healer fighting proudly for the Horde (Yes, For the Horde!).

As for books, my heart belongs to The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, but I’ve been known to have mini obsessions for Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians. What can I say? I’m a sucker for epic quests, whether they’re in fantasy lands, alien tundras, or the realms of my own imagination.

    Story time:

Funny story for you! Currently, I’m back in school for psychology, a journey I started in 2020. When I took my first class, I had a teacher who was a little on the harsh side—well-read and greatly knowledgeable, but very serious. Man, did he intimidate me. It was obvious to anyone who listened to one of his lectures that he did not like technology, especially gaming and social media.

Now, if you get to know me (and I hope you do), you’ll find that I’m a “let the past lie and move on” kind of person. But for some reason, during one of his lectures, when he was in the middle “there hasn’t been anything good to come out of gaming… like that online game WoW,” I decided to let out, straight from the diaphragm, “For the Horde!”

Yes, right in the middle of the classroom, in front of everyone. And yes, I was mortified. I promptly apologized and explained it was a reflex. Thankfully, nothing ever came of it, but even now, I roll my eyes at myself every time I think about that moment.
