Mr. Vinny

My dog sprung a leak at 5 am and my bladder tried to kill me. Ok, this is a little over the top but here is what happened. It was more like my dog had to pee badly and I had a UTI, hope that's not too much TMI.....oh the dad jokes.

If you are still reading, thank you.

At 5 am this morning my little love Mr. Vinny started sounding off in the next room where he had been sleeping that night. Of course, I pop out of bed to see what is wrong, he is my little buddy after all. It is clear to see he is all but doing the puppy pee-pee dance. So we rush downstairs to let him outside, I should mention, it is snowing outside and I am wearing a nightgown. So I am standing there bare-legged with no shoes on and can't find the retractable leash to put on Vinny. Not my favorite way to let out my 10-month-old puppy but desperate times and all that.

After finding the retractable leash under my husband's coat, Mr. Vinny makes it outside just in time. But then my bladder starts screaming at me, and all I can think is hurry up, hurry up, to which I can see him sniffing around taking his time as one does when they need to pee in just the right spot. So I have to get creative and latch the retractable leash over the door nob shut and lock the door. At this point, I am cross-leggedly hobbling up stair thinking to myself please don't be in the bathroom, please don't be in the bathroom. As I am cross-leggedly hip wobbling up the stairs I look like some kind of crazy person doing an impression of an expressionistic pee-pee dance.

When I get to the bathroom I have a feel-good "Oh thank god" moment tell I realize I really did not have to go to the bathroom my body just was all PEEE NOWWW because of a bladder infection.

I took care of my needs and then flow back downstairs to get my dog which was still locked outside. He seemed relieved so I took him off leash, I should add here he is only 10 months old and not fully trained. We normally only have both dogs in one part of the house at once to keep any mess limited. But, it was early and I was not thinking. I was still traumatized by my bladder trying to kill me from embarrassment. Anyways, Mr. Vinny gets ahead of me running at light puppy speed up the stairs into the room where my husband and our other dog are sleeping on my brand-new king-sized bed.

I get upstairs and see he wants to sleep with us, which we do allow from time to time, so I throw him on the bed and get in bed myself. I shut the door and turn out the light, and everyone seems to be settling in when Mr. Vinny starts making a choking swallowing sound. I try to grab the slippery monster by the back of the neck but he scrambles out of my grip and after searching for him in the dark I know he has settled at some place out of my grip range.

Being warm and comfortable I start to feel good about getting a couple more hours of sleep. I put my CPAP on and close my eyes and pet my one-year-old dog, Evie. Shortly after I get settled I hear the sound of huffing and something that sounds like a cranky frog crock. Any dog or cat owner knows this sound as the precursor to a pet vomiting so hard they spout poo in a projectile manner. If you are picturing a high-power auto-rifle with some ridiculously large cartridge, I would say that is accurate.

Then projecting from both ends he climbed towards me as if his little life is in danger and his butt hole is melting off, leaving a trail of god knows what straight up my side of the bed and comforter.

I untangle myself from my CPAP and get the light back on and see the mess he made and promptly get him off the bed. Meanwhile Nic the love of my life and king in my world is still sleeping and our second dog is cuddled up with him. Seeing what was in front of me I tell Nic he may as well get up to start his day because there is a mess all over the bed and to be careful so Evie does not get it all over her.

Grabbing my little sock goblin I run to the bathroom and have no choice but to play a game of "where is my dog shampoo, stay in the tub you little poop painter". Finally, at my wit's end, Nic very calmly tells me it is downstairs from when we adopted our new puppy and third dog. (more on this in a future blog) Nic runs down and grabs it for me and my poop painter gets a bath he well deserves. To which he very clearly tells me how much he disagrees with my method of getting him clean. Nic brings the comforter and bedding downstairs so I can wash them.

This was my morning 1/25/2023, which is funny to read all the above heck it was fun to be all sarcastic and write. But, my little buddy has been sick for almost a month. I joke to work through the deep frustration when someone you love is suffering and you can not do anything. After an episode a couple of weeks ago where I stayed up with Mr. Vinny for 36 hours straight, I thought he was going to die because he wouldn't stop shaking and throwing up. All I can say is thank god for the dandelion leaves I pick and dried for my rabbits in the fall. A couple of days after this episode we took Mr. Vinny to the vet where he was tested for several things, including heart-worm, and a tick borne-disease. ( All came back negative)

My little buddy pulled through and after going to the vet she recommended we put him on Prilosec to help with acid reflex and indigestion. I truly thought that was the end of it. We had a course with the medication and knew he needed to eat good quality food. But this morning was clearly his body purging something harmful out of his system. I  made the tough decision to fast my 10lb puppy to help his body get the time it needed clear itself the rest of the way. This was the last resort, he has not been eating much and slowly losing weight and he does not have much weight to lose. So instead of watching him slowly wither away, I decided to not keep introducing food to Mr. Vinny's system, just in case new food was keeping indigestion going.

We have been monitoring him closely and so far he seems to be perking up. He has even tried to steal treats from his siblings.

As Always Stay Classy,

Marie
